Valid Verification Attempts
At Orange Tree, a valid verification attempt is completed when we have reached a contact that we have reason to believe is authorized and is the best possible source of that information. Our valid attempt process makes every effort to obtain accurate information by:
- Identifying the best possible source of information
- Contacting only accurate, approved, and vetted contacts, phone numbers, email addresses and 3rd party sources
- Attempting contact during time zone specific business hours
- Attempting contact at staggered times of day
- Attempting contact on a different day
Integrated with All Available Sources
We work directly with authorized contacts and primary sources – past employers, colleges, state licensing agencies, and other recognized sources – to obtain the best information available and support our customers’ individual screening needs. Our success rates are industry-leading, and we annotate our progress in our easy-to-use ClientConnect® portal.
When completing an employment verification, Orange Tree will verify employment dates and position or title provided. While conducting this background check service, Orange Tree will make at least three valid attempts over a minimum of three business days.
For military veterans, Orange Tree’s military employment verification seeks to confirm military employment as claimed by the candidate. This service verifies branch name, enlistment dates, and other information as required by our customers. A DD214 form is required.
For our professional reference verification service, Orange Tree will contact former supervisors, or other colleagues that have been provided by the applicant. Our highest success rates occur via email. If preferred, we can conduct the reference provider via phone.
When conducting professional license verifications, Orange Tree contacts the issuing authority to verify the professional license status. When available, date of issuance and expiration date will be provided along with any reportable disciplinary action.
DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing History Verification: verify drug and alcohol testing history information required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR part 40 for safety-sensitive positions. These background check services require special hand-signed authorization/release forms from each former employer.

This service checks the applicant’s drug and alcohol testing history and violations in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse provides the FMCSA and regulated employers the necessary tools to identify drivers who are prohibited from operating a commercial vehicle based on DOT drug and alcohol program violations and ensure that such drivers receive the required evaluation and treatment before operating on public roads.
